Abstract
Background : Globally, the elderly population continues to increase. 11% of the world’s 6.9 billion population is elderly. In almost five decades, the percentage of elderly Indonesians has approximately doubled (1971-2020), namely to 9.92% (around 26.82 million people) where elderly women are around 1% more than elderly men (10 .43% versus 9.42%). The problem that usually occurs in the elderly is experiencing a decline in health both physically, psychologically and socially, causing the elderly to slowly withdraw from the environment and reduce social interaction which then results in the problem of loneliness. Objective : To determine the relationship between peer social interaction and the level of loneliness in the elderly at the Pucang Gading and Wening Wardoyo Ungaran Social Service Homes for the Elderly. Results : Somers’ correlation analysis has a p value of 0.000 and a correlation strength of 0.754, which shows that there is a strong relationship between peer social interaction and the level of loneliness. Conclusion : This research shows a significant relationship between peer social interaction and the level of loneliness in the elderly at the Pucang Gading and Wening Wardoyo Ungaran Social Service Homes for the Elderly. Keywords : Elderly, social interaction with peers, level of loneliness.
