Abstract

One of the psychological experiences that is significant and has long-term effects on a person's mental health and well-being is trauma. Traumatic events cause a range of emotional and behavioral responses, including anxiety, depression, dissociation, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The relationship between trauma and human psychology has been the subject of study in understanding the impact of trauma on the human psyche. This study used a psychological approach that focused on the study of character's psychology in literary works based on the American Psychiatric Association (APA) theory. The purposes of this study were to describe the description of PTSD symptoms and the form of trauma experienced by the main character, Ellice. Qualitative methods were used to analyze data collected from All Her Little Secrets novel, such as monologues and dialogues, and secondary sources such as journals and articles. In the data collection process, several steps were taken in this study, namely reading novel, identifying data, grouping data, and reducing inappropriate data. In this study, the All Her Little Secrets novel showed PTSD symptoms and various forms of childhood trauma that were the reasons for Ellice's development of PTSD. Ellice's PTSD symptoms included re-experiencing, avoidance, negative alterations in cognition and mood, and hyperarousal. As for the forms of childhood trauma experienced by Ellice, they included bullying, child maltreatment, and exposure to domestic and community violence.
