Abstract

This final project aims to analyze students' motivation to enter English teaching profession. This study was held in College of Languages of Sultan Agung Islamic Universities with reference to students of Education Program in fifth seruester. There were 43 respondents who participated this research. The researcher used questionnaire as instrument for collecting the data. It was closed questionnaire which consisted of 12 statements. The statements in questionnaire reflected three dimensions of motivation. They were intrinsic, extrinsic and altruistic motivation. t Descriptive qualitative method and a simple statistics were used to analyze the data. The result showed that 3.81 rates of respondents tended to have extrinsic motivation. While intrinsic motivation was 4.02 and 3.81 was for altruistic motivation. The data were categorized under female and male respondents and the results were not very different. Female respondent revealed that their intrinsic motivation was 4.12 higher than extrinsic one which was only 3.86 and 3.87 was for altruistic motivation. In male respondents, the highest rate was also intrinsic motivation with 3.81, and 3.69 for extrinsic motivation and altruistic motivation. Demographic factor such as sex, parents' job, parents' income and pocket money didn't give much influence in students' motivation to enter English teaching profession. However the researcher found that there were 9 out of 43 respondents who admitted that they had part-time job, 7 from the respondents had high score in intrinsic and intrinsic-altruistic motivation, while 2 others included in extrinsic­ intrinsic and extrinsic-intrinsic-altruistic motivation.
