Abstract

This study is an attempt to describe the application of teaching vocabulary to the seventh grade students of Junior High School using Scruffs game and to find out how students' responses of the use of the Scruffs game in teaching vocabulary. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher conducted a descriptive research. This research was held at SMP Islam Negeri Huda Semarang. The subject of the study was grade VII-A. This class consisted of 24 students.The researcher carried out three steps. The first step was observation to observe the teaching learning process. The second step was administering the test. The last step was questionnaire. The questionnaire was meant to find out the students' responses about the game. This research belonged to the discriptive research with qualitative analysis. The questionnaire result got high responses from the students. It was proven by there were only 2 statements of 28 questionnaire that indicated fair score, the other statements got very good and good score. The mean of the test was 9. 63, it means that the students could do their work. Based on the observation, the researcher concluded that the game was applied by using three steps. The first was pre-learning, learning activities as the scecond and for the last was post learning. Based on the observation, questionnaire and the test, the researcher found out that the seventh graders'responses of the use the Scruffs game was positive. Keywords: Vocabulary, Scruffs, Game.
