Abstract

Syarifah, Ulyawati. 2014. The correlation Between Students’ Reading Habit and Their Writing Ability in Recount Text. (A Study at Second grade Students of SMA Walisongo Semarang). Education Study Program College of Languages Sultan Agung Islamic University. Advisor: Hartono, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Reading Habit, Writing Ability This study is aimed to find out wether there is or there is no correlation between students’ reading habit and their writing ability in recount text. This research is designed as a quantitative research. The sample of the study was the whole students at second grade of SMA Walisongo Semarang. In collecting the data, the writer used questionnaire to measure reading habit and students scores to measure writing ability. Then the data was analyzed by product moment correlation formula in SPSS 16 ( α = 5 %, N = 42, r table = 0.304). T he result of normality analysis Tests were 0.827 for reading habit and is accepted for reading habit because 0.827 > 0.05. Meanwhile, for writing ability showed that H 0 1.202 for writing ability. It can be figured out as H 0 is accepted. Because, 1.202 > 0.05. Thus, both data distribution of reading habit and writing ability were normal. then, Linearity showed sign is 0.446, then H 0 is accepted for linearity. Because sign 0.446 > 0.05. Thus, the relationship between dependent and independent variables was linier. Due to the result of data distribution of variables were normal and linearity analysis was linier. So, to analysize the correlation in this study. The Pearson correlation showed that the correlation between reading habit and writing ability was at 0.302. It meant that H is rejected. Because, the coefficient correlation 0.302 < 0.304. Finally, the conclusion of this study, there is no significant correlation with a positive correlation between Students’ reading habit and their writing ability in recount text at second grade of SMA walisongo Semarang. 0
