Abstract

Milktea is a blend of tea, milk and sugar. In the process of making milktea using green tea, sweetened condensed milk, and sugar, with a dose of 2 teaspoons of sugar or more. With the amount of sugar can affect the pH of the oral cavity. This study aims to determine the effect of milktea drinks on changes in salivary pH in students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Sultan Agung Islamic University 2019. This research is a quasi-experimental study or clinical trial with a pre-post test control group research design. In this study observations were made twice namely before and after treatment. The number of samples in this study were 30 samples, from 30 samples were given mineral water after 2 minutes of saliva taking and measurement of salivary pH. After being given mineral water, 30 samples were then given milktea after 2 minutes of salivary retrieval and pH of saliva was taken. Changes in salivary pH after drinking mineral water and salivary pH after drinking milktea were compared using the Wilcoxson Test. The results showed no significant effect of salivary pH after consuming milktea (P> 0.05). Miktea does’nt significantly affect changes in salivary pH, if milktea is consumed continuously it can cause caries because milktea contains a lot of sugar. Keywords: milktea, milktea and mineral water, saliva, pH of mineral water and pH of milktea
