Abstract
This study discusses about segregation as the result of racial discrimination toward Aibileen and Minny asAfrican American characters in The Help novel written by Khatryn Stockett. The study also analyzes anger and aggression as the effects of racial discrimination which shows by Aibileen and Minny. The study uses qualitative method by using The Help novel as the primary data and journals, articles, and others as the secondary data. The data of the study are in the form of monologue and dialogue. The data were collected by reading the novel, identifying, classifying, and reducing the data. From the analysis, the study concludes two points. First, Aibileen and Minny as African American maids are segregated by White American as their employers. The issue of segregation which happens in the novel is segregation in public places and private place such as in a bathroom. Second, segregation treatments happened to Aibileen and Minny give some effects such as anger and aggression. Both of Aibileen and Minny show her anger. However, the aggression treatment only showen by Minny. In conclusion, the study shows racial segregation and its effects happened to African Americans in The Help. African Americans get segregation treatments from White American in all parts of daily life. The segregation treatments motivate some effects such as anger and aggression.
