Abstract
Language is a communication tool between humans. Without language humans cannot communicate. Speaking politely is the most appropriate thing to use in communicating, because with polite language someone is able to maintain the price and dignity of himself or others. The use of polite language needs to be improved, especially among students who are in the public spotlight that santri when interacting prioritizes politeness in language. Therefore, researchers are interested in conducting research at Islamic Boarding Schools. This study is entitled " The Language Politeness of Speaking at the Santri and Its Relevance to Learning Speech in The Al-Fattah Islamic Boarding School in Semarang ". The purpose of this study are (1) to describe the form of obedience in the language of politeness in the speech of students at the Al-Fattah Islamic Boarding School in Semarang, (2) describe the form of violation of the language politeness principle in the speech of the students at the Al-Fattah Islamic Boarding School in Semarang, and (3) describe the form the realization of the politeness of the students in the Islamic boarding school Al-Fattah Semarang. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data used in this study in the form of speech santri with the pesantren community in Al-Fattah Islamic Boarding School in Semarang. Based on the results of research and language, researchers found (1) the form of obedience to the principle of politeness in the speech of students at the Al- Fattah Islamic Boarding School Semarang data obtained amounted to 26 utterances, consisting of 10 maxims of wisdom, 6 maxims of generosity, 4 maxims of praise, 1 maxim of modesty. liver, 2 maxims of agreement, and 3 maxims of conclusion. (2) the violation of the principle of politeness in the language of students in the Al-Fattah Islamic Boarding School Semarang data obtained amounted to 7 utterances, consisting of 4 maxims of wisdom, 2 maxims of praise, and 1 maxim of sympathy. (3) the realization of the modesty of the santri language in the Al-Fattah Islamic Boarding School in Semarang has fulfilled the politeness of the language. Based on research results, politeness in language needs to be improved in both formal and informal situations. This determines the courtesy of the language used. It is also hoped that this research can be used as an alternative reference in pragmatics. Keywords: language politeness, santri, pondok pesantren.
