Abstract

Regarding to the pros and cons that arise in various education related parties, 2013 Curriculum is specifically the implementation of the Scientific Approach in the 2013 curriculum. The researcher examines the problems of teachers and students towards the scientific approach in the 2013 curriculum in English learning for high school students in the tenth grade. The purpose of this study is to describe and find the problems of teachers and students on the implementation of the scientific approach in learning English in the 2013 curriculum. This research used descriptive method. The subjects of this study were tenth grade English teachers and tenth grade students from SMA 11 Semarang in the academic year 2017/2018. Data collection techniques used in this study was observations, closed questionnaires, and teacher interviews. Based on the research obtained that there are still problems in learning using this scientific approach, so that teachers and students have not been able to apply Scientific Approaches well. Scientific Approach concerning: observing, questioning, experimenting, associating and communicating. As shown from the results of the observations, students and teachers had not applied five sets of Scientific Approaches in the learning process. From the results of the questionnaire, almost all students said that they never asked in the learning process, because they were less confident. From the results of the Interview the teacher also said that the most difficult thing to implement is step questioning because the students were not active to ask questions in class learning activities. Based on the data obtained by the researchers that in the Scientific Approach to learning English there were still difficulties for students and students to learn, especially regarding the problem in Questioning step.
